Are You Worried About Not Doing Enough To Get Your Child Into An Excellent College?
Are you overwhelmed by the college application process? Do you worry that if you are not fully equipped with all of the need-to-know information, you will make a mistake and your child may not get into his or her ideal school? Are you concerned about the high level of competition involved in getting accepted into great colleges? Maybe you feel pressure from friends and family to do everything in your power to help your child attend a prestigious university. Or perhaps you have purchased books and other resources to learn more about colleges and the admission process, but they do not contain the specific information or offer the expertise you and your family need. Do you wish your child could attend his or her ideal college and move toward a successful and rewarding life?
Watching your child prepare to go to college can be exciting, but the college application process is stressful and requires a lot of time. Even though you know your child is a remarkable student, you still may worry about helping him or her make the best decision for the future. Busy schedules and time constraints may make it challenging for you and your child to find time to research different colleges and learn more about how to optimize his or her applications. The time-consuming college application process may have hindered your concentration at work or decreased your child’s performance in school or in extracurricular activities.
Feeling Overwhelmed With The College Admission Process Is Quite Common
Many parents fear making mistakes during the college application process or worry they have not explored enough options for their child. These concerns are understandable. College is a launching point for success and every parent wants to see his or her child excel in life. Parents also understand that times have changed since they attended college. In today’s world, college admission at high-level universities is more complicated and competitive than ever. In order to secure admission to a top-level college, students must apply to many different schools.
Parents often struggle to find the time to help select the best college for their child, engage in the application process and optimize their children’s chance to get accepted into their school of choice. Many parents also feel frustrated because their child refuses to take their advice and opinions seriously.
The good news is you can balance your family’s busy lifestyle and help equip your child with the knowledge, skills and organization he or she needs during this important time. With high school college counseling, your child can get the support and guidance needed to identify the best college for him or her and begin the thoughtful process of mapping out a plan for the future.
Guide Your Child Toward Success With High School College Counseling
During organized, thoughtful and informed high school college counseling sessions, your child and I will develop a personalized plan to help him or her discover ideal colleges and stay ahead of the competition during the application process. Our sessions are frequently held via online video conference to accommodate you and your child’s busy schedules.
In phase one of high school college counseling, I will help your child identify his or her strengths, filter through his or her many options and conduct important research to find the colleges that best fit his or her interests and academic needs. In order to tailor the best plan for your child’s success, I will assess his or her values, grades, hobbies, test scores and readiness for college as well as your family’s opinions and goals.
During phase two, I will become your child’s project manager to ensure he or she stays on task during the application process. Together, we will regularly meet online or by phone to organize responsibilities, create to-do lists and identify potential obstacles. Along the way, I will monitor, guide and push your child to progress at a comfortable, yet productive pace.
Your child and I will work together using expert strategies and techniques. These effective, proven strategies include information about standardized tests, when to start applying for colleges, how to write effective application essays and what classes to take while he or she is still in high school.
A great application essay can make or break your child’s chances of getting into his or her desired college. I use a combination of in-person meetings, online meetings, telephone conferences, and written and video feedback to impart critical information and feedback on your child’s application and essays.
All of our work will be organized on an efficient online platform – accessible to both you and your child. In your child’s personalized online account, he or she will have the chance to look up useful information about different colleges and organize his or her calendar and to-do lists in order to stay on track during the application process.
For more than two decades, I have been deeply involved in the education field. In addition to earning a doctorate in education from UCLA, I have worked as a college admissions officer and as a private high school college counselor. I continue to be an active leader in the college admissions community by serving on boards and presenting at conferences nationwide. I also work as an adjunct faculty member at UC San Diego Extension where I train adults from around the world who endeavor to be college counselors in high schools or consultants in private practice.
While you may be overwhelmed by the mountain of work it takes to apply to college, you do not need to be alone in this important process. With high school college counseling, you can give your child the opportunity to work through the application process with the hands-on help of an expert in the field and, ultimately, set him or herself up for a successful college experience at a school that fits him or her as an individual.
I believe high school college counseling can help my child, but I still have a few questions and concerns…
My child does not want to go to a prestigious college. Can high school college counseling still help?
Even though your child may not want to attend a college like Harvard, he or she can still benefit from help. I can help your child explore all of his or her options, needs and goals, and make beneficial decisions while he or she is still in high school. Our high school college counseling sessions will be tailored to fit your family’s specific needs and thoroughly help your child find the colleges that can provide the skills and knowledge needed for a successful career.
I am concerned about the amount of time and money I will need to invest in high school college counseling.
By hiring me to help your child thoughtfully work through the college application process, you are enlisting an expert guide who has real-world experience as an admissions officer and a professional who is still active in the education field. When you analyze the overall cost of college, investing in high school college counseling is a relatively small price to pay to ensure you are doing everything you can to find the best college for your child and optimize his or her chances of getting accepted.
My child already has a high school counselor. Does he or she really need the extra help?
If your child attends a public high school, his or her counselor is probably responsible for an extremely high number of students, which may drastically reduce the amount of time your child can get advice and guidance. If your child attends a private school, he or she may have access to a very qualified counselor. However, this counselor may have a fixed schedule, which can limit the amount of individualized attention your child needs.
High school college counseling, on the other hand, can provide your child with a flexible online platform with which he or she will have access to personalized service and guidance. Your child and I can engage in longer, more in-depth conversations that can allow your child to explore all of his or her options.
Help Your Child Attain His Or Her Higher Education Goals
